A smart home is a home setup where internet-enabled appliances and devices can be automatically controlled remotely using a networked device.

A smart home allows homeowners to control appliances, thermostats, lights, and other devices remotely using a smartphone or tablet through an internet connection. Smart homes can be set up through wireless or hardwired systems.

A device, on the other hand, is an individual product that reports back to that system - think, Amazon Echo or Wiz Smart Lighting Systems.
